Tribu

A firm built small on purpose.

Tribu means the group you belong to. The name is the argument: search at this level is a relationship business held together by judgement, not a distribution problem solved by scale.

Executive Search and Leadership Advisory. UK-based. International reach.

Origin

The firm started as an argument about how the work should be run.

Two people who had spent their careers inside large recruitment businesses, and had seen what volume does to judgement.

Both of us built our reputations in firms organised for scale, where the model rewards how many searches you can hold at once. The searches we cared most about were the ones that needed thinking time, and those were always the first to lose it — the brief taken as written, the market skimmed rather than read, the shortlist assembled to a date rather than to an argument.

So we started working together on a smaller number of appointments and refused to grow past what two people could run properly. That partnership became TRIBU. The name means the group you belong to, which is the whole point: at this level a search is a relationship business held together by judgement, not a distribution problem solved by headcount.

How we are built

Three constraints we chose, and keep.

Each one costs us volume. That is the point of it.
  • A small number of searches a year

Capacity is the honest limit on accuracy. Taking more work than can be run properly is the most common way a search firm fails a client quietly.

  • No handover

The person you meet runs the search, writes the longlist, sits in the debriefs and is there at the offer. There is no delivery team behind the curtain.

  • A willingness to decline

If the brief is wrong, or the market for it does not exist as described, we would rather say so than open a search that cannot end well.

What we hold to

Four things we do not trade away.

Each of these has cost us work. That is how we know they are real.
01Accuracy before activity

Movement is easy to show and easy to mistake for progress. We would rather be a week slower and right about the role.

02Say the difficult thing early

If the brief is contradictory, the package is off the market, or the internal candidate is stronger than the field, you hear it while it can still be acted on.

03The person you meet does the work

No handover, no delivery team behind the curtain. It caps how much we can hold at once, and we accept that cap.

04Decline rather than drift

A search that cannot end well is worse than no search. Turning one down is a normal outcome here, not a failure of nerve.

Mission

Better leaders build stronger businesses.

That is the whole of it. An appointment at this level changes how a business is run and how a career goes, and the two are the same decision seen from opposite sides of the table.

So we give both sides the same care: the client gets an honest read of the market, and the leader gets an honest read of the role.

What we do

One expertise, applied at three moments.

Retained executive search sits at the centre. The rest is the same judgement, applied earlier or later.
  1. Executive search

Retained appointments at board, C-suite and the level either side of it.

  2. Leadership advisory

Role definition, organisational design and succession — the work that decides whether a search is the right instrument at all.

  3. Leadership mapping

A considered view of a leadership market before it is needed, so the decision is not made under time pressure.

The method behind all three is written up in full under For Organisations.
